paper cuts and coffee stains

More products for Kaleido Konsthantverk!

The paper decorations are meant to hang in a window or a doorway. The sides fold out from the middle, I've sewn with green or red thread and they have a small tassle hanging down at the base :)

Below are coffee constellation cards. Made on good aquarelle paper with a Fineliner and then painted with instant coffee. I just love the warm brown color, effects – and smell!

paper treasure

Been binding some books lately.

I "found" my old paste paper stash from when I went to bookbinding school 10 years ago! We spent a whole week making wonderful papers to use as book covers. They turned out beautiful the whole lot, it was so much fun. I used to just bring them out to look at and then tuck them away again... they're like a treasure to me. Didn't want to spoil them. But now I've suddenly made up my mind to start using them. I love them, but they need to be used! So here goes, here's a first batch.

The books will soon be for sale at Kaleido!

In January I'll start as an active member again at Kaleido, after my year of resting membership (hasn't actually been all that restful, but good being able to concentrate on my suggestion for the public art commission and important family matters).

Hospital art

Roland Persson

Fredrika Linder (all 3 above)

Torbjörn Johansson

A few weeks ago some colleagues from Kaleido and I went to Akademiska Sjukhuset (University Hospital) in Uppsala to look at some of the recently accuired public art works. It was very interesting. Just to have a really good look – see the different expressions, materials and solutions.

Psykiatrins Hus (psychiatric dep) has amazing work by Anders Widoff in the main entrance. I was lucky to have heard a talk by him about this work a few months ago. It was stunning to see it in real life. It's huge  and my photos don't make the artwork justice.
Also a huge sculpture by Frida Tebus called Finding Lithium and a breathtaking, large scale embroidered drapery by Kazuyo Nomura.

I'm on TV – Sverige!

I was featured on national TV! For Sverige!, a show which reflects the cultural life in Sweden (one of our favorite programs, always an interesting mix).

I was filmed and interviewed for 2 days in my studio and at my solo exhibition at Kaleido Konsthantverk in Uppsala. The result was boiled down to 3 minutes (!) and can be seen here for thirty days. I'll see if I can upload a small video of the 3-minute sequence later.

It could of course have been longer, but I think they caught the essence of my thoughts on work.

London!

Mattias was invited to speak at ELCAF, East London Comics and Arts Festival, and the rest of us tagged along, Rosa, Olivia and Olivias friend Julia. Also Jens, Mattias' publisher/graphic designer, joined us for a couple of days. We all stayed in this fabulous former-church-now-apartements in Camden. We found it via Airbnb, great if you want to rent an apartement on your vacation instead of staying at a hotel.

Walking to Camden Lock Market

Mattias sold and signed his books Second in Line and the newest one Larger than Line at the festival. Both books sold out! So he didn't have to lug 25 kg of books back home again...  Larger than Line was fresh from the printer (Jens brought them with him, Mattias hadn't seen them yet).

Shopping and eating

Fish and chips

Chipotle (Mattias is one the illustraters for their bags, but apparently only the American ones, not the British).

Rosa and I tried a cyber sushi restaurant, but it was so complicated, cold inside and expensive, we ended up leaving...

Tate Britain. Here we saw one of the most inspiring exhibitions ever: British Folk Art. Unfortunately you weren't allowed to take photographs of that exhibition. Phyllida Barlow was also amazing, her monumental pieces very impressive.

Next was Tate Modern. We took the boat there from Tate Britain - nice view from the water. Louise Bourgois' sculptures are fascinating, I didn't know of her prints and textiles. There was a whole exhibition with drawings, prints, textile collages and paintings. Wonderful!

One evening we dropped the girls off at the musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Mattias and I ended up at Covent Garden, sipping bubbly wine and listening to a quartet play live classical music. Both parties were very satisfied with their evenings.

The full moon shone into our apartement. Felt like a huge eye watching over us.
Ah, London, can't wait to go there again...
